Jeanette Farrier's interest in Kantha began while visiting India in 2003. She was entranced by the traditional village craft of stitching using saris to create ritual offerings of happiness, prosperity, and wish fulfillment. Jeanette was also determined to improve the lives of women she saw living in poverty in Kolkata by providing them with a means to generate income. This Kantha bedcover is made from 2 near perfect cotton saris. Expert seamstresses fold and stitch the soft cotton into an ultra-fine quilted fabric which is warm, durable, and beautiful. Between the saris is a recycled dhoti cloth – a traditional unstitched garment worn by men in India, added for extra thickness and warmth. Some bedcovers have small patches, enhancing their vintage origin. Handmade in India.
